Renovating an Old House – Foundations [VIDEO]

If you’re thinking about renovating an old house, either for yourself or for profit – these are main things you need to know about foundations.

There are two major types, the slab foundation and the pier and beam foundation. Cast iron lasts about fifty years, so if the house is fifty years or older and still has the original pipes – you’re probably going to need to replace the sewer line. If it’s a slab foundation, you will need to tunnel under the house to get to the sewer line.

The recommended strategy is to get the right experts involved so you have an accurate estimate of the costs associated with leveling and/or fixing any foundation issues and for upgrading the pipes.
