Georgetown was officially formed in 1848 and was primarily a farming community for the 19th and early 20th century. Since Williamson county was the top cotton producer in the state of Texas and two national railroads served Georgetown, it became a distribution hub for cotton and cattle.
The rehabilitation of the downtown area in the 1970’s and 1980’s, along with the population growth, (10,000 in 1980 to nearly 60,000 today) makes Georgetown a desirable place to live. The Georgetown ISD serves 12,000 students and has been awarded a B+ rating from Niche.
Median home values are slightly under $300,000, with 70% of residents owning and over 50% of the homes built after 2000.
